summer saturdays in carlisle

Where ever you live, there are seasonal events that remind you it is now summer.
Carlisle, PA is one such town.
                    this weekend is Chevy Nationals.

the monte carlo reminds me of my high school years. my cool cousin drove one and once i got my driver's license i got to drive this beast on occasion.

if you prefer to give car show traffic a wide berth on these weekends,
and want somewhere to go, avoid the traffic, skip downtown;
we are right off I-81S  ex 49, (or ex48 from the northbound side) come visit and bring a project.

sometimes a project will pop into my head, fully formed, all i have to do is execute it.
other times i find a strand of something or open a box of findings i forgot i had.
viola, a new project.

this is the project du jour:

how do YOU utilize a strand of beads that are not quite long enough?  how often do you put it back, forgetting about it to find it again months or years later?
some of those may slowly get incorporated into a variety of other projects, a few beads here and there to add a pop of colour or texture.

or add enough of something else to create a new piece:

the new normal

every day is a new day,
untried, unexplored for each of us.
every change creates a new you and therefore a new normal.
what was yesterday does not always apply today.
what is your new normal?
my new normal is showing up and being present in each moment. it also gives me the opportunity to meet new people every day in a new space,
which just happens to be a cute, boutique-style, bead store and jewellery emporium.

27 March 2018

a workshop weekend

so much happening in one weekend!  where to begin?
according to the mad hatter: "start at the beginning, and when you get to the end, stop."
spring sprung and then snow happened.  i think it's mother nature's way of saying calm down and be patient.  but i want spring NOW! lol
by Friday most of the snow had melted, just in time for the shop's first (unofficial) workshop.

balloons make every occasion happier.

take a group of people who have limited or no experience with jewellery stringing and you get surprised, happy people.

she wanted more colour and opted for a slightly more challenging design... and nailed it!

single and double strand bracelets in green.
(good colour for a spring day.)

or bring your own project and update it.  this had a broken clasp and she decided to restring it.  she added glass leaves and created a lariat that can be worn in a plethora of ways.

everyone left happy with a new piece of jewellery.
on to new adventures...

21 March 2018

a day in the life of snow and beads.

hurry, rush, quick now.  then mother nature says "slow down".  so take a snow day. and what should you do on a snow day? shovel.  well, yeah, i was thinking something more fun; like playing in the snow.

this is less a snow person than a balancing act. there is no snow under the front, so the bottom rocks.

i did do something responsible today (besides washing dishes).
that would be the shoveling part noted above.
can you see the yard stick way back in the lower 40?

just shy of 9".

snow days are fun for all kinds of things.
this being a blog about jewellery, there should be some.
variations on a theme
simple stringing can take on new meaning when you vary the size of the beads
or
 add a pop of colour.

and a pair of ear-rings to match or wear on their own.

13 March 2018

it's time!

it is always nice to have options, even if i feel no closer to "officially" opening.
But suffer no trepidation!
the shop hours are tue-fri 10-6 and sat 10-2. (except snow days)
the doors will be "open" next week! come over and visit, and then
on Saturday, 24March  we will be open from 12-6.
i will hold 2 workshops during the afternoon.

want to learn basic stringing techniques?

come over at 2 o'clock and make a simple bracelet to take home.

variations on a theme
vary a simple pattern by changing bead size; or add a pop of colour.

or want something a tad more challenging?
learn how to incorporate a multi-strand pattern into your stringing.

then at 4 o'clock make a pair of mandala style earrings with bead stitching.  don't want to work with tiny beads but like the pattern?  use larger beads and thicker stringing material.
'we got this'

there will be food and beverages (did i say family will be visiting?)
...of course there will be food.
italians don't need an occasion to make food, but if there is an occasion, there's food.

come for an hour or for the afternoon.  the more the merrier!
